esteban guitar review

Well, I just saw the the esteban guitar infomercial on late night TV. Actually, make that early morning TV… I couldn’t sleep last night, so I got up and started flipping channels. I had heard about the Esteban guitar from the online guitar forums - it isn’t hard to find opinions about it.

Every guitar forum out there seems to be full of people asking what guitar to get for their first guitar. And there are also quite a few threads out there with people asking about this Esteban guitar they bought off the Home Shopping Network. And the reviews are not kind. From the sounds of it, the Esteban guitars are really poor quality - and even worse, you end up paying more than $260. There are some pretty darn nice guitars out there for $250. One that a lot of people seem to like is the Washburn D10s, which only costs $200 at SameDayMusic.com.

Now I haven’t seen an actual Esteban guitar, much less played one… but from the sounds of it, you want to stay away from it. And for the same kind of money, or possibly quite a bit less… you can get a nice first guitar. In fact, that Washburn guitar is a solid top guitar - which is really the first hurdle to getting a quality guitar.

If you still like the looks of that Esteban guitar informercial… take a look at some of the forum discussions like this one.

  1. I have used the Esteban American Legacy steel-string guitar, for about a year. I have to say that the guitar is still in perfect condition, despite constant use. I don’t understand why everyone “disses” on this guitar, like it’s a piece of junk (when it’s far from it). Most beginners guitars are made out of plywood. However, the entire body of my American legacy is rosewood, with an awesome red finish. All I can say is that a lot of the negative crap out there, is probably from guitar store owners, who fear loss in sales from the American Legacy.

  2. I actually saw one of these at a local pawn shop. I picked it up and played it for a minute or two. It sounded real bad and the quality is not there. Any beginner should buy a quality guitar, period!! My instructor has been teaching for over 40 years and he completely agrees with that. If the guitar is not capable of producing a good sound, a beginner is likely to put it down quickly being very discouraged. You will begin to believe that you can’t learn to play at all, when it is really the guitar that is the problem. I’m glad that I was given this advice before I made the same mistake. I’ve been playing for about eight months and I’m just as enthusiastic as when I started. There are numerous manufacturers out there with quality guitars in this price range. And by the way, I do not sell guitars.
